Better than David Alaba: Ancelotti gives OK as Real Madrid Finds Center-back

Carlo Ancelotti gives his approval to Solari's recommendation: transfer in progress for Real Madrid.

Ancelotti has given his approval. Real Madrid needs a center-back immediately, given that there are still long-term absences in defense. David Alaba's recovery is taking longer than expected and a possibility has emerged that would help reinforce the back line immediately.

In a recent meeting held in Valdebebas and attended by Ancelotti, José Ángel Sánchez and Solari, the latter layed the possibility of a transfer on the Madrid coach's table.

News site Defensa Central has discovered that Solari has proposed Ancelotti the possibility of signing a compatriot of his to reinforce the defense: Cuti Romero. He is currently at Tottenham, which makes his price very high, but he has the approval of the sporting department and the coach himself.

Solari described Cuti Romero as a "very good" defender with "great hierarchy" who would help end Real Madrid's problems in the back line.

Cuti Romero will be Hard

The reality is that the possible transfer of Cuti Romero for Real Madrid is extremely complicated. He has a contract with Tottenham until 2027 and they have no intention of selling him. His valuation is 70 million euros, a price that the Madrid president has no intention of paying, preferring someone younger.

The truth is that Romero would kill to join Real Madrid, but he knows it's difficult. He doesn't plan to rebel, especially not during the next winter transfer window. The possibility is on the table, with Ancelotti's OK to carry out this complicated operation.

David Alaba's Recovery is Taking Longer

Ancelotti has been blunt and has explained to Madrid the need to reinforce the center of defense. Cuti Romero is suitable for him, but what is clear is that a replacement for David Alaba is needed, given the issues he is having to recover from his injury.

Ancelotti only has two reliable center-backs: Rüdiger and Militão. And, of course, it's an unsustainable situation for the Italian coach, who faces a season with many competitions and urgently needs reinforcements.

Alaba's injury, suffered in December 2023, has turned out to be much more complex than expected. The Austrian soccer player suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a condition in the meniscus in his left leg. Since then, he hasn't played a single minute.
