Vinícius Joins the Fight: Broncano and Pablo Motos Keep an Eye on Real Madrid

Real Madrid has a decisive influence on the audiences of El Hormiguero and La Revuelta.

It is a restless battle. Pablo Motos and David Broncan are fighting for the leadership of TV in Spain with their programs El Hormiguero and La Revuelta respectively.

Pablo Motos had dominated the ratings landscape in Spain for many years. In recent seasons, however, David Broncano began to enlarge his audience among young people with La Resistencia on Movistar.

Broncano ends Pablo Motos' Dominance

But this season he's signed with RTVE and is competing on equal terms, openly and at the same time, with Pablo Motos.

And against all odds, Broncano has turned the tables on Pablo Motos and ended his dominance and his Hormiguero.

With a few honorable exceptions, since the battle began in September, Broncano's always won. And it has attracted all age groups, thus putting an end to the myth that he was only popular with young people.

Some TV critics blame Motos for his failure because he's gone too far with his political content, always in the same direction.

The thing is that there's even been a repetition of characters in both programs. With the same guest, Motos has always lost and Broncano has won.

Within this authentic battle for audience dominance, a curious circumstance related to Real Madrid takes place.

Pablo Motos Feels the Blow from Real Madrid

When Real Madrid plays during the week at the same time slot as El Hormiguero's, Pablo Motos's programme is affected, much more than David Broncano's.

Does this mean that the profile of Real Madrid fans matches Pablo Motos's more than David Broncano's?

The truth is that a very special rivalry has begun between the two. For the older readers, it reminds them of that between José María García and José Ramón de la Morena in the 80s and 90s.

"Noticias de Navarra" provides the data: There's a “drop of between 100,000 and 300,000 viewers” when El Hormiguero and Vinícius and company coincide, while La Revuelta improves the blow.
